Long-distance move from Lincoln, NE to Salisbury, MD

Scammers

I have been trying to contact this company for two days after my pick up date. After providing exact measurements of my items 3 weeks before my move, they increase the estimate from $2500 to $4100. I paid the 2 deposits and awaiting the pickup. At pickup, they wanted to charge me an additional $8000 as my items would take more room in the truck than was allotted for it. What was the point of measuring my items and counting the containers if they weren’t going to allot enough space. I plan on disputing the deposits and involving my business lawyers as this was a business move and is now negatively impacting business income as I don’t have my items. The moving company that showed up also demanded cash payments only. Having worked in the moving industry for 3 years, I know this provides a means for them to skip out on insurance claims as they can state the items were never moved by the company

Home move.

I am extremely relieved to have my move over and have gone better than planned.  From the beginning I had anxiety about hiring a moving company because of the horror stories I had heard.  I am so happy I used american national van lines for my move, they really followed through on their promise to ease the stress.  I dealt with joe, who was by far the most honest and informative individual I had spoke to regarding the move.  He not only educated me as to the red flags to look out for, but he was very thorough and caring when it came to planning my move.  He walked me through each step I could expect, and he was there throughout the whole move.  I am also happy with the fact that I received delivery of my belongings in the time frame I was told.  I cannot say enough about how professional and reliable the company was.  After my move I was contacted by a representative and asked to give feedback as to the whole experience for quality assurance purposes, and for doing so I received a gift card.  I strongly recommend american national van lines for your home moving.

BEWARE!! They Will Trick You and Will Charge You Extra Somehow.

I am very frustrated with the service I got from American National Van Lines and Most Valuable Movers. I received the quote for my move from Wixom MI to Tampa FL from American National Van Lines. They, later, hired a trucking company (Most Valuable Movers) to move my stuff down to Tampa. I do not recommend any of these companies to anyone because they will find a way to trick you and charge you extra somehow. Following is my reasoning for my statement:
• Reason 01: American National Van Lines is not a Better Business Bureau accredited company. They have a BBB rating of C (On a scale of A+ to F). Here is the link: http://www.bbb.org/south-east-florida/business-reviews/moving-brokers/american-national-van-lines-in-hollywood-fl-90108908
I knew all this before I hired them. A lady called Marie, convinced me to hire them saying that she will be the point of contact and she will make sure that there won’t be any issues with my move. They actually got involved and solved all the problems until the trucking company picked up my stuff and after that they backed up and did not helped me at all.
• Reason 02: American National Van Lines hired a company (Most Valuable Movers), who has the worst BBB rating of F (On a scale of A+ to F) to move my stuff. Here is the link: http://www.bbb.org/new-jersey/business-reviews/movers/most-valuable-movers-in-linden-nj-90163855/
Read about customer complaints and reviews on this company at Consumer Affairs website (overall satisfaction rating is 1 out of 5): http://www.consumeraffairs.com/movers/national.htm
• Reason 03: The trucking company tried to charge me extra when they came for the pickup, saying that there is an extra set of stairs to climb. When I rejected it, they came up with another FUNNY extra charge ($500+). The truck driver was saying that they charge not according to the actual cubic yards that I have, but according to how much space that my stuff take in his truck. When I rejected that, he was warning me that my stuff will get damaged if I don’t pay the extra charge. American National Van Lines got involved to solve this problem as well.
• Reason 04: At delivery, the truck driver, Robert rejected to come into my new neighborhood saying that he cannot bring in a semi-truck into the neighborhood. Then they said, they will have to use a shuttle service and they will have to charge me extra $300 for that. I offered to send the driver pictures of my neighborhood to show him how he can turn around. He refused that and rejected my request to come and see.
• Reason 05: When I called the American National Van Lines, which is the company that I hired, they backed up from helping me at this point. Especially, Marie, who promised to take care of all the issues, was not even available to contact. They said either I will have to pay the extra charge or I will have to get a U-Haul truck and go collect my stuff from their warehouse.
• Reason 06: A guy called Ryan from American National Van Lines treated me very badly. At one point during our conversation he raised his voice and shouted at me saying “SHUT UP and LISTEN.” He sounded like threatening me. If this is an unacceptable level of customer service to you, DO NOT EVER HIRE any of these companies.
• Reason 07: I didn’t want to pay an additional penny to these guys. So I decided to get a U-Haul truck (I paid for this) and to get my stuff from their warehouse and bring them to my new home. The original quote was to deliver everything my new home and re-assemble the de-assembled furniture. They did not do any of these things and they did not refund me for those uncompleted services.
Overall, you will be SORRY if you ever decide to hire any of these companies for your moving needs. DO NOT HIRE THEM, Yes, I mean it, DO NOT EVER HIRE THEM!!

This customer is a joke. Honestly. This customer was charged $0.00 additional. Again, $0.00. This customer wrote a review on the BBB, and after they researched, they removed his complaint and said they apologize for bothering us with this nonsense.

THIS CUSTOMER LIVED AT A DEAD END AT DELIVERY. There was NO WAY for a truck to get in there, at all! We offered to SPLIT the cost of a uhaul truck with him (10') so that they movers could shuttle his things from the 18-wheeler to the 10' truck to his apartment. But the customer refused to pay $100 to split it with US- when it was simply a courtesy.

Again, he ended up paying $0.00 over. Was picked up within his window. And delivered within his window.

Cant please them all.. Especially customers such as 'Chathura'.

Beware.

Do not use this company, this is a broker not the actual movers. look for a local moving company to avoid paying extra charges on your estimate. I paid 950.00$ additional and my pick up and delivery was late! salesman on phone was very nice but the promises were False! Please look up a local moving company and make sure they are the actual movers And have them come to your home for appraisal before you sign with anyone ! also when you receive your written estimate and itemized list for contract, please read very carefully and ensure all your items are included or you will pay extra, I told them 2 flat screen TV's and they listed only one on my order $$  BEWARE !!

Service cost: $3040

Official company response

Imani, I saw that you put this review back in busy season, and unfortunately I did not catch it sooner. I reviewed your account and see that you needed to pay additional money because you required additional space. If you go to checkout at the store, and add more items, the price does not stay the same. As for being a broker, we have been upfront and honest about this since the first call. Every moving company actually brokers out their deal, we just happen to be a reputable company doing so. If there is anything we can do here ma'am to change your overall outlook of American National, please do not hesitate to call.

Helped me Move.

I was super nervous to use a moving company after reading about all the scams, but I am sure there is a reason I didn't find anything bad with this company. Ryan was extremely helpful, seemed like he has been doing this a long time, and I told him I would write a good review once I received my things. Movers were ON TIME, polite, inventory was exact, delivery was earlier than expected, and No damaged goods. Not sure what else there is to complain about but this company made my move completely stress free. Thank you. .

Movers.

Richard called me several times trying to convince me to go with his moving company.  He told me that their trucks had partitions to keep your items from getting mixed into other customer's items. (which thet don't) I went over all of our moving items with Richard and he confirmed a price that he promised wouldn't change. Richard was available and friendly until I decided to be a customer. I was then turned over to Julian, my moving coordinator who emailed me that someone would be contacting me about my items. No one did call and so I called them on a wednesday, days before our moving date to check in. Julian wasn't available (or Richard). A female went through my list and told me that we had too many boxes and it will raise our price a couple hundered dollars. I told her I would get the box count down to the acceptable number to keep the price that Richard promised me wouldn't change. We reducing our inventory immensely from what I originaaly told Richard. We were told the movers would call us 24 to 48 hours before they came but they couldn't give an actual date. On saturday morning, we get a call from the movers saying that they will be there in a couple hours. What?!?  We scrambled to pack up the items we had been still using.
The movers arrive and start quickly and roughly loading our valuables. Boxes clearly marked fragile were tossed around like a soccerball. I mentioned it to one of the movers and he said OK. Then, when 2/3 of our items are on the truck, I'm told we have no more space on the truck since they have one more load to pick up after me but I can pay double what I was quoted and they will take it. Again, What!?! I ended up having to sell the items that they claim wouldn't fit , within 48 hours (no small feat).
The kicker is I didn't get my belongings for 2 weeks after the date they were supposed to deliver them and when they did arrive, all of the boxes were damaged, my plastic bins were cracked and deformed and items were dirty and scraped up.

Kelly, I am the supervisor of American National Van Lines. I just took the time to read your review, and I am quite upset. I also took the time to listen to your recorded phone call with Richard, and did see you told the truth and he did NOT about the partitions. For this reason, we have let Richard go. We pride ourselves on great customer service and telling the truth up front. If there is anything we can do here to rectify this situation to better improve your review of American National please give us a call. 855-818-8863 and ask for Kelli. Thanks.

This is a scam moving company STAY AWAY.

They give you a really nice, low price for a move, then they contract your move to a scummie company that is late, trashes your belongings and steals from you. I did not have one box that wasn't damage or one piece of furniture not scratched or damaged.  Then this company demands atleast 3 times the amount agreed on before they will deliver.   This is the worse company, do not do business with them.

Here at American National Van Lines we pride ourselves on A rated customer service. This customer is the one and only customer I will state needs professional help. She told the drivers she wished they would "CRASH AND DIE" for being 20 minutes late. They called and said they did not feel safe after this customer said "if they show up late, she will kill them" and this customer seemed crazy enough to do so. When we called her to tell her to calm down and not speak to our movers like this, we will send a new team, she said "I hope that your family is in a car accident and burns to death". I have filed police reports against this customer as well as a personal restraining order. CONSUMERS BEWARD FRANCES BEARD IS NOT A CUSTOMER YOU WANT TO DEAL WITH!!

Competitive.

Great price for my long distance move. They were courteous and helpful. Reduced my stress level tremendiously with the moving price. They work with payments. They arrived on time and had good communication.
This company was very professional, honest, and not only was the customer service extraordinary, but the moving crew themselves were extremely professional. They would not even accept my TIP!! I highly recommend them, and wish that more people with a positive moving experience would take the time to write reviews to help out the owner of this company.
I even helped them with unloading my goods and they helped me get a few things upstairs at no charge. Would reccomend to friends. .

Horrible.

UNTRUSTWORTHY
if I could give a negative rating, I would
They are the worst scumbags. They move around so you can’t get them. They misquote you, then hold your things ransom until you pay 3x what’s quoted. Promise to pay you if they are late. (They owe me $250). Of course I never heard from them. They STEAL from you and NEVER answer or return calls
I have never in my life been treating so poorly or talked to so badly. They stole my grandmothers silver, guitars, tools, gaming system, just to name a few. They just went through our stuff and just picked out what they wanted. Not only were a lot of things missing, a lot of things were broken.
If they broker your move out to someone else, they don’t even make sure they’re trustworthy and they will not take responsibility for their actions.
The worst customer service, worst experience of my life!!
Do yourself a favor and DON’T USE THEM!!
Then they like to bad mouth you when they reply to these reviews!

Most pathetic service

I inquired about a quote from CT to NJ, they offered an unreasonable amount. I declined the offer, they kept calling 5-6 times a day and forced me to speak to their moving specialist who was very very rude and tried to sell their schemes although I wasn’t interested. I kept repeating that I did not want their services, they conveniently hung up everytime. I had to block their contact to avoid getting so many calls.

I would highly NOT RECOMMEND these services. They think no end of themselves. The company has to understand that there are other competitive companies offering reasonable prices and who are often kinder that their ‘moving specialists’.

Stay away - SCAMMERS

I had put my information in to a pool of moving companies to find out which one would work best and long story short, National American Vanlines reached out to me and offered a great deal on a move. At first, you talk with the nicest person ever and once you finalize your move and everything, they send you a confirmation e-mail that is NOT accessible moving forward. It “retracts” from the server and you can no longer view it. For payment, they require you to access a link and put your BANKING information in, not your credit card and it comes up as a check form. Once that’s done, you don’t even receive a receipt, you receive absolutely nothing. After your payment is made and you hang up, you’re no longer able to talk to your representative - they make you deal with the “customer service” department. They’re all extremely rude, unprofessional and they told me “you will not win this dispute because you signed a contract.” What contract? One was never sent to me and you had my current address incorrect. They are impossible to get a hold of and they didn’t send me anything in my e-mail until after I called today. They sent me an e-mail letting me know I’m unable to reach my prior representative moving forward, but will only have contact with customer service moving forward. They took out $793.00 from my account as a “deposit” and are refusing to refund it if I cancel, even though I was verbally told they’d only keep 10% if I cancelled. I have been requesting a copy of my contract and they are refusing to send it to me. Beware of this company! They are SCAMMERS. The number is based out of Florida and is a personal cell phone number. When you call, it sounds like a call center but you hear people in the background arguing with customers about payments and refunds. I heard at least 2 different conversations on that today. Please beware and do not use this company as they are not legit.

Unscrupulous and deceptive business practices

CHOOSE ANOTHER COMPANY do not fall for the trap like we did. The have shyster practices with luring initial low quotes, leave you pressured at last minute with charges 3x the quote amount, they sneak in the fine print a 72 hour cancelation policy with no refund of deposit, and will treat you rudely.

Long Version:

The initial contact made with National American Vanlines was on, March 26, 2021 about an upcoming move. We requested a quote and they required information regarding our "inventory" that would go on the truck. The asked vague questions of the inventory and we provided the accurate information and told them its a 16x10 storage unit worth of inventory and a few other outside items. I was able to ask them very specific questions about their pricing and what I would expect to pay based on previous moving experience and from talking with other moving companies. For our inventory, we were quoted a fee of $2861.21 for the entire move. That same amount was also emailed to me in a contract. No further inquiries from the company were made regarding our inventory. They required a deposit from our checking account of $1059.00 and was debited same day and 2 subsequent payments would be made at and after move completed. They said they "do not take credit card but the drivers can accept postal money orders".

Now its May 17th, two days before our move, and a company representative called with a "quality assurance" procedure. A company representative then started asking in depth questions regarding our inventory for the truck. After provided the details of our inventory, a new estimate of $4986.99 was provided and further $936.20 was due immediately from our checking account. They explained that the reason for the difference in estimates is that we "did not provide accurate details of your inventory at the initial estimate". After much deliberation and multiple phone calls with multiple representatives, we decided to cancel our services and told we will forfeit the deposit of $1059.00. After multiple requests we were still denied the deposit and was hung up in mid-sentence by the representative with no written confirmation of the cancellation. I called back and spoke with another representative because the previous rep refused to speak with me. I requested email confirmation of the cancellation and was told "she will get it to us when she gets around to doing it". Still no email confirmation of cancellation.

Legal representation has already been contacted and will be in contact with this company requesting refund due to poorly written contract and not meeting the terms of their contract. The FTC, Florida AG, and BBB have also been contacted and informed of their business practices taking place. Will be contacting local FL business bureaus, town/city councils, and filing on their bond.

Don't trust at all. As seen in the early reviews everything is correct word by word. First they give to nicest person to make a deal ,deposit payment with debit card etc. And they give to customer care who are very rude when time comes to near. For me they didn't make it on the date which I given , I booked my flight tickets, end of the lease date . And simple said we cannot come on 24th..make it to 30th but we are not sure this is the reply I got from them. They refused to give the deposit. A Big Thumbs Down for them !!!!

Dishonesty sales practice

The sales representative tells you that there is no penalty for reserving with a deposit. After I provided a deposit, I decided to go in a different direction. In the contract, it says there will be a 10% charge for cancellation. I called the company to cancel and let them know the salespeople tell customers there is no penalty. They apologized for one of their sales reps being dishonest with me. The customer service rep told me that they would rather be honest with customers and earn trust. However, instead of listening to the recording of my sales call and refund based on the salesperson's misrepresentation, they charged me the entire deposit. I called customer service again and was informed that I should have been told I would get the entire amount charged and that I would then be refunded the deposit minus the 10% fee. I asked how long it would take the get the refund I was told to call back in a week. I would not recommend this company and do not appreciate the dishonesty and lack of customer service of this organization.

They are great until they get your deposit

Great company and attention UNTIL they get their deposit. After that, good luck on getting information like what day EXACTLY will the moving truck arrive?? The dates that they have in RED on the contract are apparently suggested pickup dates. So, if you are closing on a home and need to be out on a specific date based on the information the moving company gave you…..well, you are on your own with no recourse. Good luck getting information from them. They won’t call you back, apologize, or admit to inconvenience. It’s best to never ever ever ever call these douchenozzles.
